Lebanon – Film Review

Posted by realitypod on January 24, 2010

A few weeks ago, I went to see an israeli independent film called Lebanon, directed by Samuel Maoz. This film is based on personal experiences of being in a war tank in Lebanon. Yes, it scared me all the way through and at some point I coudn’t watch. This film is so real it’s almost a documentary. It shows strength and type it takes to go to war, be in war and sitting in a battle tank for weeks on end with no communication with the outside world, except for the radio which goes back to the control center. This film is not for the faint hearted or for the guys and girls out there who like romcoms. This film is about the breakdown of communication and a team who start out with no experience of war in the fields of Lebanon, except that they end up being lead down the wrong path and communication gets disjointed and the fear of death starts to creep into the guys in the tank..

Lebanon will give you a brilliant insight to what it’s like being a real Israeli soldier at war. The storytelling is brilliant and it’s clearly on a small budget, but for what they have done, I salute them in bringing the harsh realities of the real people in war to the screen!

No wonder it won the Golden Lion Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival.

Watching the evening news in the same way again!

Toy Story 2-3D

Posted by realitypod on January 16, 2010

I went to see Toy Story 2 in 3D this week, and I have to say I really enjoyed the experience. OK, you have put on the 3D special effect glasses, which by the way have come along way from the shades I put on for JAWS. If you love the Toy Story series, I would go see it, which makes a nice follow up to the new Toy Story 3 which will be in Cinemas Julay 23rd 2010.

EDGE OF DARKNESS – trailer

Posted by realitypod on December 31, 2009

Not sure what to make of this one just yet,  it’s a thriller and my toes curling suspense radar is hitting red  just watching the trailer, so I guess its working….

SYNOPSIS

EDGE OF DARKNESS is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, twenty-four year old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter’s secret life and her murder.  His investigation leads him into a dangerous looking-glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder — and to CIA operative Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone) who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven’s solitary search for answers about his daughter’s death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption.

EDGE OF DARKNESS is released in cinemas across the UK on 29th January 2010. Certificate and running time TBC

Robin Hood – trailer

Posted by realitypod on December 24, 2009

It’s set to be a box office smash! It might also be in 3D, but we don’t know just yet! We have our very own Ridley Scott directing this English piece of Nottinghamshire history.. He steels from the rich and gives to the poor, uses bow and arrows to hunt his victims and in modern day language, he’s called a terrorist! Yes you have guessed it. It’s Robin Hood.

The title role has been taken by Russell Crowe and our main man, Pietro Scalia has done a fantastic job of editing this wonderful trailer.

I’m excited because hollywood is putting out a remake of this British classic myth and it’s directed by a brit. Not only that he’s (Ridley) a complete northerner! So what’s my point? He is down to earth, a bit hard and takes his time over what he wants to achieve but then achieves it with complete dedication and focus.

I’m almost convinced he has actually meet Robin Hood and has been seen with him in Sherwood forest.

The budget is a lovely  $130,000,000, not bad for small change! It’s important to realise that Ridley has the same crew with him as his other films, such as Gladiator and Body of Lies.

Check out the trailer below…

It’s simply fantastic, the depth of the colours, animation and story telling is pure genius. I had the pleasure if taking my family with me and my 6 year old nephew. He loved it so much. In fact this is a real family movie, they have got the balance just right, its a perfect film for all the family.

A Prophet – movie trailer.

Posted by realitypod on December 15, 2009

I’m scared.. Criminal activity is intimidating, it’s comes with bad territory, its grippingly fun and when gangsters have something to prove, they will beat anybody that stands in the way!

Go see this movie.. If you loved the Godfather, Once upon a time in America, Scareface you will love A Prophet.

Here the drill:-

Nineteen year-old Malik (Tahar Rahim) is condemned to six years in prison. Arriving in jail friendless and alone with no-one to protect him, he soon finds himself drawn into the brutal violence and gang warfare of daily prison life. Taken under the wing of a powerful boss, Malik is initiated into the criminal ranks. Once on the outside, he is entrusted with more and more important missions. But Malik is brave and a fast learner and secretly has his own plans that dont involve taking orders from anyone else.

Jacques Audiard, acclaimed director of The Beat That My Heart Skipped, brings us the winner of this year’s Grand Prix at Cannes. Having recently won the Best Film award at the London Film Festival and being hailed by critics as a classic in the same vein as The Godfather, A Prophet an instant classic of the crime genre.

Avatar movie

Posted by realitypod on December 15, 2009

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

We enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. Despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart. He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth’s energy crisis. Because the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human “drivers” have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora… the Na’vi.
Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures. As Jake’s relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

AVATAR opens in cinemas everywhere Thursday December 17, 2009.

Distributor: Fox
Release Date: Thursday 17th December 2009
Certificate: 12A
Running Time: 161 mins
Director: James Cameron
